Michelle Wie drops out of British Open with hand injury

Michelle Wie pulled out of the Women’s British Open in the middle of her first round Thursday due to a right hand injury.

The American had posted a score of 7-over after 12 holes at the Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club in England when she quit.

After he withdrawal, Wie tweeted that she “gave it my all today but I just couldn’t handle the pain any longer.”

The world No. 18 golfer said she has been playing through the pain for some time and hoped that taking a break would allow her hand to fully recover.
