Memorial service set for SPD Officer Kurt Henson

A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday for Spokane Police Department Officer Kurt Henson.

Henson, 47, was killed near Clark Fork, Idaho, July 24,, when he hit a lane edge in a construction zone on his motorcycle at night. Both he and his passenger, Kimberly Lenox, 43, were thrown off the bike. Henson was then hit by a Dodge pickup truck that was behind him. The truck left the scene of the crash, where Henson died. Lenox was taken to Bonner General Hospital and has since been released.

On Wednesday, Idaho State Police confirmed that Brianna Knapp, 28, contacted authorities, was interviewed and arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

Henson was a 12-year veteran of the Spokane Police Department, a 7-year veteran of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, a father of three and a friend to many on the force.

His private memorial service will be at 10 a.m. in Post Falls.
