Medical Examiner identifies body found in river as missing woman Loc Nguyen

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Medical Examiner has identified a body found in the Spokane River on January 30, 2019 as missing woman Loc Nguyen.
Nguyen, 24, was last seen on December 3, 2018 after leaving work at a convenience store near downtown Spokane. Her family reported her missing on Decebmer 5. Her car was later found at the Mirabeau Park Trailhead.
The sheriff’s office said the river and surrounding area were searched but there was no trace of Nguyen found. They even used search and rescue dogs, but did not find a scent.
Nguyen’s phone was later found by someone hiking near the river. Investigators were able to pull some information from the phone that led them to the Northpointe Plaza in north Spokane.
Detectives said Nguyen was seen purchasing a bottle of alcohol at Total Wine & More and buying cat treats at the nearby Pet Smart the night she was last seen.
Nguyen’s body was recovered from the trash rack at Upriver Dam nearly two months after she was last seen. The medical examiner has not yet determined Nguyen’s cause or manner of death.
