Medals awarded in pairs figure skating

Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot of German won gold in the Olympic pairs figure skating event Thursday in PyeongChang.

The Germans posted a free skate score of 159.31 for a total of 235.90 when combined with their short program score from Wednesday.

Sui Wenjing and Han Cong of China took silver following the free skate portion at Gangneung Ice Arena, with Canadians Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford winning bronze.

American husband-and-wife duo Alexa Scimeca Knierim and Chris Knierim, competing in their first Olympics, finished 15th out of the 16th pairs teams taking part in the free skate.

The U.S. has never won Olympic gold in pairs figure skating.
