Matilda opens this weekend at the Spokane Civic Theatre

The Spokane Civic Theatre is kicking off their 73rd season with “Matilda the Musical” – a fun and funny show the entire family will enjoy!

Matilda is based on the popular Ronald Dahl book of the same name. The story was turned into a movie in the 1990s.

Both the book and movie have been a hit with audiences for generations. Nearly a decade ago, the musical production appeared on the West End in London.

The story for all three is relatively the same. It tells the story of a young girl who does not have a very happy home life. Matilda’s parents had wanted a boy and they never let her forget it. She hopes to get some relief at school, but finds a whole new enemy there in her principal. Hilarity ensues as Matilda discovers she has telekinesis and uses her powers to fight back against her parents and defend her classmates.

Opening night is Friday, September 13. You can purchase tickets here. Performances run through October 13.

The character Matilda is a great fan of reading. To celebrate, the Spokane Civic Theatre is partnering with Auntie’s Book Store for the “Big Little Hero” book drive. If you pick up a copy “Matilda,” Auntie’s will donate to the Communities in Schools of Spokane County Foundation. You will also receive 15% off your purchase and $5 off your Matilda ticket.
