SEATTLE. — Seattle Mariners star Julio Rodriguez was named the American League Player of the Week on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old outfielder was awarded his strong run of play from June 27 to July 3.

Rodriguez hit .360 with two doubles, one triple and three home runs over the week. He led all center fielders in the American League in slugging percentage and total bases (22) during the week of play.

In 81 games this season, Rodriguez is batting .275 with 47 runs, 33 extra-base hits and 20 stolen bases. He has the second-most hits, 3rd most runs and leads the league in stolen bases among qualified AL outfielders.

Rodriguez was AL Rookie of the Month in May and June.

On July 4, he became the fastest player in MLB history to hit 15 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a season.
