Man takes 2-year-old hostage

SPOKANE, Wash. — UPDATE: Standoff is over. Police say child is safe.The suspect has been detained, and there were no injuries. An investigation is pending.

Spokane Police did not say if weapons were found, but in the initial call, the man told them he was armed.

A possibly suicidal, heavily armed man is reportedly holding a 2-year-old hostage in the 9700 block of N. Morton.

Kids from Shilo Hills Elementary were being dropped off at the apartment complex, but were taken back to the school while police handle the situation.

Teams are wearing body armor. The road is currently closed.
