Man taken into custody following hours-long search near Grangeville

Wednesday morning, the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office said the man deputies had been looking for since Tuesday morning was finally in custody.

According to the Idaho County Free Press, the suspect led deputies on a high speed car chase that started nearly 100 miles away in New Meadows.

It ended near Grangeville but the suspect got away on foot. Deputies believe he was potentially armed and in the area Long Haul Road and Reservation Line Road.

Schools in the area went into lockdown until the end of the day. The Sheriff’s Office asked people living near the search to go indoors and make sure all homes and vehicles in the area were locked.

An Idaho State Police SWAT team held the perimeter line for the night. A helicopter and ATVs returned at 5:00 a.m. Wednesday to continue the search. The suspect was taken into custody around 8:40 a.m.

The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office did not explain how the man was found.
