PREVIOUS: The man accused of assaulting a 71-year-old woman at the Spokane County Courthouse has been released from the Spokane County Jail.

Police were called to the courthouse on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. for reports of an assault involving 30-year-old Jesus A. Fregoso.

Before an officer could arrive, two concerned citizens in the courthouse overheard the victim yelling, “take your hands off me, leave me alone,” which prompted them to intervene.

According to court documents, Fregoso asked the victim where she lived, if she would like to have sex with him and then grabbed her.

Two male witnesses pried Fregoso’s hands from the victim’s arms while they told him to let go, according to court documents.

The witnesses tried to keep Fregoso on the ground until officers could arrive. Fregoso physically resisted and said he they would have to kill him or else he would rape the victim.

While witnesses tried to keep him on the ground, Fregoso continued to resist. The situation got so bad, one of the men helping the victim had to strike Fregoso in the face to gain control.

Fregoso’s sister told police he will most likely hurt or murder someone if he is released. She said she believes her brother is extremely dangerous.

Fregoso was arrested on an outstanding fourth-degree assault warrant and a new charge of fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation. He was booked into the Spokane County Jail.

At this point it is not clear why Fregoso was released.
