Man runs at deputies with bat
SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Spokane Valley Deputies arrested a man who ran at them with a baseball bat Sunday morning.
At around 8:30 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a suspicious male carrying a baseball bat, and walking in and out of the road near the intersection of Pines and Sprague.
The suspect, later identified as 58-year-old Kevin R. Alexander, advanced toward Deputy Tim Jones, even when the deputy told him to stop. Alexander raised the bat and looked like he was going to try and assault Deputy Jones.
Alexander then began walking south across Sprague, and began to run toward the businesses on the south side of Sprague.
In the alleyway behind the businesses, Deputy Jones and other responding deputies lost sight of Alexander.
Deputies finally located Alexander, who fled through carports, backyards, and jumped fences, before being confronted by two deputies in the yard of a residence in the 400 block of S. Houk.
Alexander then turned toward Deputy Schaum, with a bat still in his hand. Alexander dropped the bat when ordered to, but then attempted flee again, before deputies brought him to the ground. At one point, Alexander grabbed ahold of one of the deputy’s batons, before being placed in handcuffs.
Alexander was given medical treatment before being booked into the Spokane County Jail for attempted third degree assault.
