Man pleads guilty to vehicular homicide for wife’s death

A 27-year-old Mount Vernon man has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports that Jose Pablo Cruz’s entered the plea on Thursday as part of a deal with prosecutors.
Cruz originally pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned April 20.
Court documents say he was charged after he backed his truck into his wife, 24-year-old Shannon Denise Cruz, during an argument in March.
She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Documents say that when police arrived at the scene they observed signs that Jose Pablo Cruz was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
His lawyer said there is an agreed recommendation between the prosecution and the defense that would sentence Jose Pablo Cruz to five years, nine months in prison.
