Man leads authorities on chase, crashes into police cars

A man in Airway Heights is accused of crashing into two patrol cars after leading police on a chase that reached 100 miles per hour.

The incident started when Airway Heights Police officers responded to a report of domestic violence around 9 a.m. Sunday. AHPD said the suspect, Paul J. Reinhardt, had left the house before officers got there, but came back while they were investigating.

Officers said when Reinhardt saw them, he quickly drove off. Police followed him and he tried to speed away. AHPD said the chase reached 100 miles per hour and ended when Reinhardt drove into a cul-de-sac near the entrance to Qualchan Golf Course. Officers said he backed into an AHPD patrol car and then crashed into a Spokane Police car.

He tried to get away again, but officers blocked him. Reinhardt was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on six felony charges and two misdemeanors. AHPD said his blood alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit.
