Man accused of filming women in N. Spokane store changing room

SPOKANE, Wash. — Police arrested a 29-year-old man Tuesday after he reportedly filmed women in a changing room at a North Spokane store.

Two female customers said Zakkary Deboer was filming them as they were changing.

“She noticed that he clicked to take a picture, and she saw herself on his phone, so then at the time he proceeded to walk out of the store,” employee Mikayla Kimmerly said. “He wasn’t running or anything he was just walking out and the victim’s friend yelled ‘he’s taking pictures of us’.”

The women alerted staff, who called police, while Deboer then ran from the store.

The women and staff members, including an 18-year-old female employee, chased after him. Police said a good Samaritan helped detain Deboer until officers could get there.

The young employee said Deboer has come to the store often over the past few weeks. She said Hut No. 8 only sells women’s clothes, which was the first sign to them that something was off.

“He violated my store, he violated my customers at my store, it’s not okay,” Kimmerly said. “What he did was not okay so I needed to get him, we needed to get him down.”

They said Deboer had previously bought athletic clothing from the store.
Police spoke with witnesses and employees, and determined they had probable cause to arrested

Deboer for first-degree voyeurism. He was found with several phones and electronic devices, which were taken as evidence.

“He had like bloodshot eyes, it was like red and it looked like he was just drugged out,” Kimmerly said.

Deboer appeared in court Wednesday afternoon. A judge set his bond at $10,000 for the voyeurism case and an additional $5,000 for a recent residential burglary.
