Magic of Storytelling campaign provides books for kids

27 schools in the Inland Northwest will receive over 14,000 books this week through the Magic of Storytelling campaign.

KXLY has teamed up with local businesses to sponsor schools.

One of those sponsors, Washington Trust Bank, will send out their “Crew in Blue” to personally deliver a book to every kid at the schools they’re sponsoring.

“I just think it lays such an important foundation, and I can’t imagine any other kid not having that opportunity,” said Katy Wagnon, Washington Trust Bank. “I feel like it’s something that every kid should have available to them.”

For Washington Trust, the decision to get involved with the Magic of Storytelling was easy.

“Who doesn’t want to get kids excited about reading,” Wagnon said. “I think we all have that one book that we loved as a kid that kind of opened up the world to us.”

And for 10-year-old Gavin, books have done just that.

“Books just make me go to a different dimension, a different world. It makes my imagination come to life,” he said.

At Gavin’s school, Progress Elementary in the Spokane Valley, all 422 students will receive a book on Friday.

At Title 1 Schools like Progress, money is tight.

But the Magic of Storytelling campaign is making a difference.

For now, the students don’t know what’s coming their way.

“It makes me feel excited,” said Gavin.
