Lopina Out Indefinitely With Fractured Vertebrae

PULLMAN — Junior quarterback Kevin Lopina suffered a back injury during last weekend’s game against Portland State that has taken him off the gridiron indefinitely.

WSU Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Training Bill Drake confirmed Tuesday afternoon that Lopina suffered a fracture of the L-4 transverse process of the vertabrae, which was confirmed after he left the game last Saturday with a deep bruise in his throwing shoulder.

Tests and re-evaluations on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday confirmed the fracture. Lopina will be out indefinitely and will be re-evaluated on a weekly basis.

In other team injury news, the Cougs have also lost junior linebacker Jason Stripling, who needs surgery on his left shoulder. He will miss the rest of the season.
