Local teen sets his sights on Paralympics

A 15-year old Cheney boy is back from an exciting trip to England. Isaiah Rigo, flew across the pond to compete in the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation Junior World Championships, bringing home four gold medals in four different track events.

“I did pretty well, I raced the 100, 200, 400, and 800,” Rigo said. “I got gold medals in all the events.”

The teen, who has been racing with his coach and family by his side for a few years now, suffers from Arthrogyposis which affects the joints in his legs and hands.

“I have a wonderful coach she does amazing with me and just pushing me and believing in me that I can do my best,” Rigo said.

Rigo is one of the many stand outs at ParaSport Spokane, an organization that helps young adults with physical disabilities compete in a wide range of sports.

“It helped me a lot in my life and it will help other people,” Rigo said.

His coach says he has a work ethic that can’t be matched, always wanting to train, and always wanting to get better.

The incoming freshman at Cheney High School says he has his sights set on the Paralympics in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
