Local celebrations honor historical ‘Oktoberfest’ tradition

If you’re looking to celebrate Oktoberfest, the Inland Northwest is the place to do it. Celebrations are planned in Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, and of course, Leavenworth.

Oktoberfest is a famous celebration in Munich where steins of beer and pretzels are consumed by folks in ceremonial German garb. If you don’t have time to fly to Germany, try one of these three local celebrations.

Spokane Oktoberfest:

Spokane Oktoberfest is taking place at the Centerplace Regional Event Center in Spokane Valley. There will be live entertainment, food, and lots of beverages! Food and beverages are not included and tickets can be purchased at the door. Children 12 and under receive FREE admission, and after 9:00 p.m. the event is 21+ only.

Dates and times: Friday, September 27, 4 – 11 p.m.

Saturday, September 28, Noon – 11 p.m.

Sunday, September 29, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Coeur D’ Alene Oktoberfest:

The Coeur D’ Alene Oktoberfest features live music, lots of beers and ciders, three beer gardens and kegs throughout downtown businesses. Children and designated drivers enter free with a ticket holder, and if you wear dirndl or lederhosen – you get a free meal!

Dates and times: September 20th, 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and September 21st, 12:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Leavenworth Oktoberfest:

Leavenworth Oktoberfest is going on for three weekends in October, rain or shine. Ages 12 and under receive free admission, and the venue becomes 21+ at 9:00 p.m. every night. There will be live music from groups from the U.S., Canada, and Germany and the keg tapping ceremony will be done by Leavenworth’s mayor every Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Dates and times: October 4-5, 11-12 & 18-19, Friday 5 p.m-12:00 p.m., Saturday 12:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m.

Wear your dirndl’s and lederhosen, bring your steins, and PROST!
