Likely Republican Nominee Looking For Cash
PHOENIX (AP) — John McCain will be on the road all week. The likely Republican presidential nominee isn’t stumping for votes, he’s looking for cash.
Starting Monday in St. Louis, McCain has a series of fundraising events mapped out as he tries to replenish his campaign account. Tuesday, the Arizona senator heads to New York, then Boston on Wednesday. There are other unannounced cities in the offing through Friday.
McCain faces a tall order. Both Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton have easily outdistanced McCain in campaign donations – Obama raised $55 million in February, while Clinton collected $35 milllion.
By the end of January, McCain had raised $55 million – but his campaign had just over $5 million in cash on hand.
