Less than one month left to check out Titanic: the Artifact Exhibition
SPOKANE, Wash. – — In the six months since Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition docked at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, it’s managed to become their most popular exhibit ever. So far, 40,000 people have passed through the exhibit, with the spring break week for Spokane schools seeing a whopping 4,000 visitors.
If you haven’t seen it yet, your time is running out. It sets sail out of town in less than one month, on May 20.
The museum says it’s easy to understand why Spokane has gotten into the exhibit. From the moment visitors walk in, they are immersed in the world of 1912 as they’re given a boarding pass, assuming the identity of a passenger aboard the vessel.
The exhibit follows the story from the beginning in chronological order. First stops include learning about the making of the Titanic. Then, visitors are ushered in to a room with a replica first class and second class cabin.
The real excitement comes when they get to see what life was like aboard the ship of dreams with nearly 100 objects taken from the floor of the ocean, once on board the Titanic. Many are in pristine condition.
Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture director Wes Jessup said, “and then at the end of the exhibition, we have a memorial gallery that memorializes every single person’s name who was on the ship so you are able to find out if you were one of the people who survived or perished.”
If you’d like to see the exhibit before it closes, the museum recommends planning a trip sooner rather than later, as crowds are expected for the final two weeks. Booking tickets in advance online can save you time waiting to get in to the exhibition
The exhibit is closed Mondays.
