Lakers make LeBron signing official

The Los Angeles Lakers made the signing of LeBron James official Monday night.

The storied NBA franchise announced the signing and James’ representatives at Klutch Sports Group tweeted out a photo of him signing his deal with Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka.

The agency originally broke the news of the 33-year-old’s decision to sign a four-year deal worth $154 million with the Lakers during the first official day of NBA free agency on July 1.

The four-time MVP has played in the past eight NBA Finals for the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers, winning three titles along the way.

Meanwhile, the Lakers have missed the playoffs for a franchise record five straight seasons.

Magic Johnson, the former Lakers great and current president of basketball operations, called James “the best player in the world” in a news release announcing the official signing.

“He loves to compete and is an awesome leader who is about winning and making sure that his teammates are successful,” Johnson said in the release. “The Lakers players are excited to have a teammate who has been to nine NBA Finals. It’s a huge step closer to returning the Lakers to the playoffs and to the NBA Finals.”
