KXLY4’s Dave Erickson Completes Ironman

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Among all of this year’s Ironman finishers, one is extra special to those of us at KXLY 4. Our own Dave Erickson completed the Ironman Sunday, after months of training and preparation.

Dave finished 229th in his division placing 1,039th overall in a field with more than 2,200 competitors.

According to Ironman’s online athlete tracker, Dave completed the swim portion in a little more than an hour at 1:25:44. Dave picked up the pace on the bike course, putting away the 112 mile bike in just 6:16:22, averaging a speed of 17.85 miles per hour. While on that leg of the course he went from 1,371 place to 921st place overall.

The last leg of the Coeur d’Alene Ironman is the 26.2 mile run. Dave completed the run in a little over five hours, crossing the finish line at 13:07:21.

When Dave crossed the line he was greeted by family and friends who had been supporting him the entire race.

“I’m feeling great,” Erickson said. “I went a lot faster than I thought I would and it’s exactly what I wanted it to be. I mean, it’s everything I trained for, I’m so happy.”

Erickson proudly showed off his medal.

“I did it, I did it!” he said.

Until Sundday, Dave had never done an open water race such as the Ironman. He plans on competing in next year’s Ironman as well.
