Kennewick teachers to strike on first day of school; no agreement met

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Hundreds of Kennewick teachers plan to strike on the first day of school after failing to reach a tentative contract agreement with the school district.
The first day of school is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 27.
The Kennewick School District and Kennewick Education Association met for several hours today but were unable to come to a resolution. The two groups have been negotiating since late May.
Some of the main issues the union was fighting for were salary, class size, safety and special education.
The district will be partnering with YMCA Tri-Cities to provide childcare services at four different elementary schools: Canyon View, Cottonwood, Ridge View and Lincoln. Children will need to be registered in the YMCA childcare program to participate. More details can be found on their website.
This is a developing story.
