Kennewick man dies from apparent drowning
BEVERLY, Wash. — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a man died Friday afternoon on Lenice Lake, near Beverly, from an apparent drowning while fishing.
The man was identified as Michael E. Dawson, 69, of Kennewick.
Deputies said Dawson was reportedly fishing from a flotation device on the lake. Emergency responders were called just before 3 Friday afternoon after two other fishermen in the area tried to rescue Dawson when his flotation device failed.
Police from Mattawa, Royal City, Kennewick and Grant County deputies and Fire District 8 and 10 responded, recovering Dawson’s body around 4:20 p.m.
Deputies said while drowning is suspected, the actual cause of death remains under investigation by the Grant County Coroner’s Office pending an autopsy scheduled for Monday.
