K9 shot in Moses Lake pursuit in stable condition

MOSES LAKE, Wash. – A police K9 is recovering at Washington State University’s Veterinary Unit after being shot during a pursuit Friday night.
The man who shot the K9 was wanted in connection to several robberies. He was killed shortly after by a Moses Lake police officer.
According to Chief Kevin Fuhr, the man fled after police attempted to make a traffic stop, causing a car chase for several miles. After successfully stopping the car, the man attempted to get away once again.
The man then pulled out a handgun during the chase and opened fire, hitting the K9 that was with the officer. That’s when the officer returned fire, killing the suspect.
The K9 was taken to Pioneer Veterinary in Moses Lake and later transferred to Washington State University’s Veterinary Unit for emergency surgery.
According to the Moses Lake Police Department, the dog is continuing to make progress and is in good spirits.
