Jury Reaches Verdict At Guantanamo Trial

GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba  — A military jury has reached a verdict at the first Guantanamo war crimes trial.

A spokeswoman for the military tribunals says the panel of six American military officers will soon deliver the decision in the case against Osama bin Laden’s former driver.

Salim Hamdan, a Yemeni, is charged with conspiracy and supporting terrorism. If convicted, he faces a maximum life sentence.

His 10-day trial was the first demonstration of a special U.S. system for prosecuting alleged terrorists at Guantanamo.
