Judge names heirs to Prince’s fortune

A Minnesota judge has named Prince’s sister and five half-siblings as the heirs to the musician’s estate, more than a year after the superstar’s death, the Star Tribune reported.

Prince left no will after his death from an accidental drug overdose. The 57-year-old Minnesota native was found dead at his Chanhassen mansion on April 21, 2016.

More than 45 people filed claims after his death, saying they were Prince’s wife, children, siblings or other relatives. Many were rejected, and some appeals are still pending.

Carver County Judge Kevin Eide ruled on Friday that Prince’s sister, Tyka Nelson, and Omarr Baker, Alfred Jackson, Sharon Nelson, Norrine Nelson and John R. Nelson are the heirs to his fortune, according to the Star Tribune. Prince’s estate is valued at about $200 million before taxes.

Eide said Prince’s assets won’t be distributed without a formal court order — and that nothing will be distributed that might affect the pending appeals.
