Journey back to the Civil War-era with the annual Battle at Deep Creek

The Washington Civil War Association will be hosting a Civil War re-enactment at Deep Creek Farms in Medical Lake all Memorial Day weekend.

Attendees at the annual event will see famous battles of the war brought to life right in front of their eyes on the battlefield. Members of the association will don replica uniforms and use cannons that they have assembled themselves to win.

Participants say unlike any Civil War re-enactment in other parts of the country, Spokane’s has a “tent city.” Next to the battlefield, some thirty tents have been set up, offering guests the chance to listen to period music, watch a surgeon tend to a wounded soldier as they would in a battle like Gettysburg.

The event happens Saturday, Sunday and Memorial Day Monday. On Sunday, there is a special Black Powder Light Show and Lantern Walk at 8pm. A nighttime peek at the camps and a spectacular display of explosions with their cannons.

After battle Monday, a special Memorial Day tribute will be paid to the 700,000 who lost their lives during the war. All weekend long, active military and their families get in to the event free of charge.
