Investigators Locate Where Ugly Duck Fire Started

SPOKANE – Fire investigators have figured out where a fire started which destroyed a warehouse belonging to Ugly Duck Liquidators on July 10th. Now they are working to figure out what started that fire.

To help determine the fire’s source there’s now a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the fire, which started in some brush in the alley behind Ugly Duck and then spread to some combustibles located next to the building.

That fire exploded – literally – when it burned up to a gas meter that fed the fire with natural gas.

Ugly Duck employees initially tried to fight the fire with some fire extinguishers but the wind kicked up and the fire took off. Firefighters started fighting the fire from inside the warehouse but pulled out when it became too dangerous.

Almost the entire Spokane Fire Department fought the fire which burned only hours before the Valley View Fire destroyed 11 homes in Spokane Valley.

The owners of the business had more than $2 Million worth of goods inside the building at the time of the fire and it was the fourth time in five years the building has been set on fire.

Investigators are not calling the most recent fire arson because they don’t know how it started, just where.

If you have any information on the fire you’re asked to call the Spokane Fire Department or 800-55-ARSON.
