Inland Northwest’s last Pearl Harbor survivor to be laid to rest Friday
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — The Inland Northwest’s last Pearl Harbor survivor will be laid to rest on Friday.
Ray Garland was the last remaining veteran in the Lilac City Chapter of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He was 96.
Garland was a decorated Marine, earning two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star during World War II and the Korean War.

Spokane Mayor David Condon ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff in remembrance of Garland.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of Ray Garland,” said Condon. “I will remember Ray for his decorated military service and dedicated to his fellow service members. IT was a pleasure getting to know him.”
Garland will be laid to rest in Coeur d’Alene. A memorial service is set for 1 p.m. Friday at Christ the King Lutheran Church.
