Indians Outlast Bears 5-4
SPOKANE — The Spokane Indians used a double to left field by second baseman Jason Ogata in the bottom of the ninth to sneak away with a 5-4 win over the Yakima Bears Saturday night.
The win meant Spokane avoided the sweep by Yakima, who took the first two games of the series.Yakima drew first blood Saturday, bringing in a run in the first, but Spokane answered back with three of their own in the third. The Bears worked their way back, eventually evening the score at 4-4 after eight. That’s when Ogata took the plate for his game-winning double.
More than 7,000 fans came out to Avista Stadium for the game, making it the team’s largest attendence so far this season. They now have a 33-12 record, and a five game lead over Boise in the Northwest League East standings. The Tribe now head to the Tri-Cities for a three-game series with the Dust Devils, before opening a five-game homestand with Vancouver August 6.
