Idaho women top program record in win over Bobcats

MOSCOW, Idaho — Idaho’s Mikayla Ferenz and Taylor Pierce led an offensive onslaught Saturday as the Vandals defeated the Bobcats 90-65 at Cowan Spectrum.
Ferenz led all scorers with 32 points while Pierce scored 24 points with five assists. Idaho went 19-of-38 from deep to set a new single-game record. The Splash Sisters went a combined 14-of-28 from the three, which led the Vandals in its record-breaking efforts.
Gina Marxen added nine points for the Vandals, which included three of the 19 triples on the game.
The Vandals out-rebounded the Bobcats, 44-31, led by Lizzy Klinker who grabbed 13 boards along with six points. Her sister, Natalie Klinker , recorded nine rebounds.
THE GAME
Montana State got on the board scoring the first two points of the game, but that would be their first and only lead of the night. The Vandals responded with back-to-back triples for Pierce and Marxen. Idaho’s offense seemed to click as the team could not miss and increased its lead by 13 to end the first frame, 23-10. Pierce was good for 12 points in that quarter going 4-of-6 from the arc.
Idaho continued to shoot well in the second frame, giving them a 19-point advantage into the intermission. The first half saw the Vandals shooting over 50 percent from both the floor and the three.
In Idaho’s lowest scoring quarter, the Bobcats outscored the Vandals 24-20 and held them to five points for nearly seven minutes of the third quarter. Within the drought, Montana State was able to cut a 19-point deficit to nine points. The comeback was cut short after Ferenz hit three triples to put the Vandals up 15 points with 1:43 remaining in the third.
Idaho dominated the fourth quarter, pushing its lead to 25 points by the final buzzer, 90-65.
