Idaho women cruise to an easy win at home

MOSCOW, Idaho– The University of Idaho Women’s basketball team (13-6,8-2) defeated the Sacramento State women’s basketball team 70-44 in Cowan-Spectrum Arena on Monday night. The Vandals scored 47 points in the second half to cruise to their eighth conference win of the season. Gina Marxen led Idaho with 18 points while Beyonce Bea and Lizzy Klinker chipped in 14 and 10, respectively.
Idaho found themselves behind to the Hornets after just scoring six points in the first period. The Vandals began to find offensive rhythm in the second period, scoring 17 points.
The Vandals fell behind 20-11 in the second period but a 10-2 run, capped with a Beyonce Bea layup, cut Sacramento States lead to just 22-21 with 2:42 to go in the period. At the half the Hornet held the advantage, 25-23.
Under two minutes into the third period, Bea tied the game at 25 with a layup in the paint before a Lizzy Klinker jumper gave Idaho the lead 27-26.
After taking the lead, Idaho outscored Sacramento State 21-9 the rest of the way in the third period. The Vandals’ run included eight points from Isabelle Hadden and seven from Lizzy.
Idaho scored a game-high 25 points in the third period.
The Vandals offense continued to flow in the fourth period as the squad went up by 20, 57-37, with 6:57 to go in the game, following an Allison Kirby three-pointer.
The Vandals outscored the Hornets 13-7 down the stretch and led by as many as 26, 70-44, with just 48 seconds to go following a Caitlyn Jones layup.
