Idaho State Police respond to semi crash in Rathdrum
RATHDRUM, Idaho — Around 1:10 p.m. on Monday, an injury crash occurred on State Highway 53 near Atlas road, east of Rathdrum, Idaho.
54-year-old Charlene M. Larson of Rathdrum, Idaho, was traveling in a red 2006 Dodge pickup southbound on Atlas road, but failed to yield at the stop sign at the intersection of State Highway 53.
52-year-old Roger A. Schroeder of Kalispell, Montana, was traveling westbound on State Highway 53 in a 2019 Kenworth semi pulling two trailers when he struck Larson’s vehicle in the intersection. Schroeder’s rear trailer rolled over, spilling the full load of lumber is was carrying.

47-year-old Matthew Diel of Sandpoint, Idaho, was traveling eastbound on State Highway 53 in a white 2011 Subaru Legacy when his vehicle was struck by the lumber from Schroeder’s trailer.
Larson and Schroeder were both transported to Kootenai Health with injuries. Diel was not injured.
The highway was blocked for about 1 hour before one lane of travel was reopened.
Cleanup is expected to finish in approximately 3 hours. Avoid the area if possible.
