Idaho quarterback Gevani McCoy wins Jerry Rice Award

MOSCOW, Idaho — University of Idaho quarterback Gevani McCoy won the Jerry Rice Award on Wednesday.

The Jerry Rice Award is given to the top freshman in FCS football.

McCoy finished the season with 2,719 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and a playoff appearance.

McCoy won the award over 25 other finalists, and received 31 out of 54 first-place votes.

The Vandals surprised McCoy with the award during an interview he thought was for becoming a finalist.

McCoy will be honored at the FCS National Awards banquet on Jan. 7 in Frisco, Texas.
