Idaho Fish and Game experiencing increase in calls for moose in residential areas as snow melts
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — Idaho Fish and Game officials said they are experiencing an increase in calls for moose and deer in residential areas as the season changes.
According to IDFG, the animals are simply following the snow melt as they search for food, and lower areas melt earlier.
Residents are warned not to approach them; especially moose as they are not as fearful of people. IDFG also warned avoid taking selfies with and feeding moose.
If the snow melt does not move quickly, the animals may stick around and begin to eat ornamental plants, but moose will typically move along.
If you see a moose, you are asked to call Idaho Fish and Game, though often they will allow the animals to proceed on at their own pace. They will intervene if the animal stays too long or is around a school.
