New release picks: ‘Kate,’ ‘Malignant,’ ‘The Card Counter,’ ‘Come From Away’ and more!

There’s a decent slate of movies to recommend this week, ranging from a Tony award winning musical premiering on Apple+, the latest horror offering from James Wan on HBO Max, a spicy action thriller hitting Netflix, and a new feature from Paul Schrader which is being dealt out to theaters.

Also: This weekend marks the 20th anniversary of September 11th, so we picked out a handful of films worth watching that present a unique perspective on that tragedy.
