Historic Grand Prix coming to Qlispé Raceway Park this weekend

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — If you have a need for speed, you’re in luck! The Historic Grand Prix is headed to the Qlipse Raceway Park this weekend.

Porsche, Corvette, BMW, Mustang, Alfa Romeo, Lotus, and Camar0, to name just a few. The best of the best vintage and historic race cars from the glory days of American and European road racing will be at the track on June 4th and 5th.

Driver Karen Salvaggio will also make an appearance, racing her Factory Five Daytona Coupe. She told us she has had five of these cars, and she’s crazy about them. She’s a racing veteran from Southern California, with over 30-years of racing experience.

“I don’t have the fastest car in terms of the most horsepower, because it only has about 390 wheel horsepower and I’m running against people who have a lot more but I try to optimize my driving. I don’t want to go to a big block or anything because then you’re broke more often than you’re on the track, so I just want to drive,” Karen explained.

She’s supported a growing community of other female motor-sports racers at events across the country, in addition to being a nationally recognized motivational speaker and health coach.

“I’ve done a lot of mentoring with young girls helping them get into the sport and hopefully my plan is to see one in Formula 1 one day. The thing about all of this… man, woman…. whoever you are, you have to be confident. You can’t just go out there and go oh I want to drive. It takes practice commitment dedication, you have failure and you have to come back from it,” Karen said.

Gates open at 9 a.m., Saturday & Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $20. Kids 12 and under and military, with active ID, are free.
