Hilinski’s Hope to launch ‘3DAY’ mental health campaign during Oct. 3 college football games

Hilinski’s Hope announced ‘3DAY,’ an event to kickoff College Football Mental Health Awareness Week during games played on Saturday, October 3.

ESPN reports that this event, also known as “3DAY,” aims to increases resources for mental fitness, lower the stigma and honor victims of mental illness. Seven SEC universities have already agreed to participate.

The event, as well as the Hilinski’s Hope Foundation, were established to honor Washington State University quarterback Tyler Hilinski, who wore jersey No. 3, and died by suicide in 2018.

One of the universities participating is South Carolina, where Tyler’s younger brother, sophomore starting quarterback Ryan Hilinski, currently plays.

Football programs that participate will wear helmet stickers and a lime-green ribbon, says ESPN, and fans will be holding up three fingers during the third quarter of their game. In conjuction with World Mental Illness Awareness Week, which begins October 4, universities will launch programs to raise awareness and improve mental health resources on their campuses.

Other universities participating include Arkansas, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.
