Cracked Pavement Us 195

WHITMAN CO., Wash.— The extreme heat is starting to wear down area roads, as many Inland Northwest cities are experiencing their hottest days on record. Pavement was buckled and cracked on US 195 north of Colfax.

The highway continues to be open and crews anticipate starting the repairing process at early Wednesday morning. Currently, a temporary fix is in place.

Washington State Department of Transportation attributes the road damage to excessive heat, and are advising drivers to be cautious when driving through the area.

Highway 20 near Tiger in Pend Oreille County also suffered damage from the heat Tuesday.
