Health officials say stay away from Port Ludlow Bay

PORT LUDLOW, Wash. — Jefferson County health officials are warning people to avoid contact with Port Ludlow Bay after about 25,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the waterway.

The Kitsap Sun reports that managers of the Port Ludlow Wastewater Treatment Plant said an electrical failure is to blame for the spill. It started Friday and wasn’t fixed until Saturday morning.

Jefferson County Public Health issued a no-contact advisory Monday.

They said the public should stay away from the bay, including kayaking, swimming and fishing. The advisory is expected to end Saturday.

Shellfish harvesting in the bay is always closed because of its proximity to the sewage treatment plant and a marina.
