Groups plan protest after Spokane County GOP leader hosts controversial figure James Allsup

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Spokane Community Against Racism, Peace and Justice Action League of Spokane, the City of Spokane Human Rights Commission, FUSE Washington are just a few of the groups that will be holding a rally in front of the Spokane County Courthouse after a video showing Cecily Wright, the Spokane County GOP Chair hosting James Allsup as a speaker at a NW Grassroots event on “Label Lynching” in early July.

Allsup, is a controversial figure in Eastern Washington, having stepped down as President of the WSU College Republicans, a group he helped found. His resignation came shortly after he posted a video of himself attending the deadly Charlottesville Unite the Right rally. He was publicly denounced by all almost levels of the state’s republican party, including at the time Wright and Cathy McMorris Rodgers, after he was elected as a precinct committee officer for the Whitman County Republican Party. He was unopposed and per state law, automatically elected.
Wright’s comments at the time included this statement.
“Mr. Allsup has never been affiliated in any official capacity with the Spokane County GOP. His past statements, affiliations and actions are deeply out-of-step with the values of the Republican Party, as well as the values of the Spokane County GOP and our members.”
KXLY has reached out to Wright for comment. KXLY will also be speaking with groups planning to protest, and will update with their responses.
