Gonzaga’s Corey Kispert awarded 2021 WCC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

SAN MATEO, Calif.— Former Gonzaga men’s basketball star Corey Kispert is the 2021 West Coast Conference Mike Gilleran male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, per the WCC’s announcement on Tuesday.

The WCC’s Executive Council selects an individual in the conference to acknowledge a player’s achievements in athletics, academics and community service as a college graduate. The award honors Mike Gilleran, the WCC’s first full-time commissioner.

Kispert is the first Zag to win the award since Josh Perkins in 2019. He is the 11th Zag to receive the honor.

The Edmonds native finished his studies with a 3.79 GPA at graduate school and a 3.49 GPA as an undergraduate student. Kispert is also an Academic All-WCC team member for the third consecutive season.

Kispert now adds another accomplishment to his already well-distinguished senior season. During the season, Kispert was named the 2020-21 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for Division I Men’s Basketball, the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year, WCC Player of the Year and a First Team All-American, among other accomplishments and appearing on multiple finalist lists.

Kispert led the Zags to a 31-1 season in 2020-21 and a National Championship appearance. Kispert finished with a 126-9 record, the most amongst Division 1 college basketball student-athletes who appeared in 100 games or more.
