Gonzaga women clinch at least share of WCC title with 53-46 win over Broncos

SPOKANE, Wash. — It’s hard to say the Gonzaga Bulldogs would be where they are right now without seniors Jessie Loera and Katie Campbell. The two guards were honored in front of a packed house in the Kennel Saturday, as Campbell walked out in a knee brace aiding the season-ending injury she sustained Feb. 1.

Loera was joined by more than 15 members of her own family as Gonzaga fans cheered for both players that have led the Zags to their best ranking (11th) at one point this season and best start in program history.

The Broncos came to Spokane with a 3-10 WCC record. The game was in the hands of the Bulldogs early, but Santa Clara hung around for most of the first half. The Bulldogs held a 30-19 lead at halftime.

They turned that into a 53-46 final behind Jenn Wirth’s team-leading 11 points. With the win, the Zags clinched at least a share of the WCC title and only need one more win to hold the title outright.

Their record improves to 25-2, as they finish the regular season on the road for three games, starting with a trip to Los Angeles to face LMU on Feb. 20th at 7 p.m.
