Gonzaga Beats Santa Clara 52-48

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Josh Heytvelt scored 15 points and No. 22 Gonzaga advanced to its 11th straight West Coast Conference tournament title game with a sluggish 52-48 win over Santa Clara on Sunday night.

Gonzaga (25-6) has won four consecutive WCC tournament titles, eight of nine and nine of the last 13. The Bulldogs made only five baskets in the second half, but survived by going 13-for-16 from the foul line.

Heytvelt was about the lone bright spot for the Zags, missing only one shot from the field and playing probably his best and most complete game in what’s been a largely disappointing season for him personally. Austin Daye, Matt Bouldin and Micah Downs all added eight points for the Zags, who advance to face the University of San Diego Monday night for the West Coast Conference Championship game.

The Toreros got to the title game by upsetting St. Mary’s late Sunday night in double overtime.
