Germany: 2 Believed Missing In Building Collapse
COLOGNE, Germany — Officials fear that efforts to reach two men believed trapped in a collapsed building in Cologne, Germany may not be fast enough.
The city’s main archives collapsed on Tuesday after a crater opened up in the ground beneath it. Authorities believe the two missing men lived in one of two neighboring apartment buildings that were heavily damaged.
Cologne’s fire chief says ground at the site is too unstable to support the heavy equipment needed to begin clearing the rubble.
A new subway line was being built under the street outside the building. Prosecutors have launched an investigation of the collapse.
