Gates Marks Anniversary Of Microsoft Research Arm

HONG KONG  — Bill Gates is in Hong Kong Tuesday for the tenth anniversary of Microsoft’s Asian research arm.

Arriving from a visit to Beijing for the Olympic Games, Gates praised the company’s regional research division, which teams with local universities and institutions.

Gates says that as Asia becomes more of a global center for innovation, Microsoft Research Asia and its partners will growing impact on technology.

The regional Microsoft operation employs more than 350 researchers and engineers, pays for student fellowships and has more than 100 university and institutions as partners.

It also runs laboratories together with universities in Hong Kong and mainland China.
