Garth Brooks and Mark Few lead kids camp in McCarthy
SPOKANE, Wash. — Not only did country music legend Garth Brooks add six more shows to his Spokane tour because of high demand, the singer carved out time Saturday to shoot hoops with local kids while sending an important message.
The Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation and Pro Champs Sports held a camp for Spokane kids from the Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest, and Spokane Cares.
“The most important thing I’ve ever done in my life is this thing right here. This is the coolest thing,” said Brooks. “I always come out and my thing is talking about ‘love’ to the kids.”
And Brooks had some special guests to help him out! Gonzaga men’s basketball coach Mark Few and some members of the team showed up to work with Brooks while leaving quite an impact on some lucky kids.
About Gonzaga and Spokane, Brooks said, “You can see why this place is so successful because they base everything on being part of something that you can be by yourself. And trust me, as much as we want them to listen to us, they listen to those ball players like crazy.”
