Games, Temps Reach Peak At Hoopfest

SPOKANE — The second day of Hoopfest came with hotter conditions than Saturday and champions being crowned in all the brackets.

The crowds were filling the streets of downtown Spokane as the temperatures soared into the 90s.  Temperatures on the courts were well over 100 degrees, as players and spectators tried their best to keep cool.  Volunteers in the medical tents were preparing to be busy on Sunday, dealing with heat issues and other various injuries.

The number of courts will start dwindling as the number of teams playing goes down.  As brackets finish, volunteers will start dismantling the courts around downtown.

Court temperatures on Center Court were around 140 degrees on Saturday, and were expected to be much higher for the Elite Division championship games on Sunday afternoon.  The Women’s Elite title game will be at 3:30 p.m., the Men’s 6′ and Under title game will be at 5:30 p.m. and the Men’s Over 6′ championship game is at 6:15 p.m.

The two men’s title games will be shown live on KXLY4 during the Hoopfest 2008 Championship Special.
