Former WSU football coach Mike Leach passes away at age 61

MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. — Former Washington State University football coach Mike Leach has passed away at age 61 Monday night.

He was taken to the hospital on Sunday for a personal health issue that happened at his home. Mississippi State University, said Leach was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, via ambulance.

The University says the college football community mourns the death of the coach.

Leach joined the Cougs in the 2012 season. He had a 55-47 record in eight years at Pullman, with his best season being in 2018 when he went 11-2. Leach and quarterback Gardner Minshew led the Cougs to a win in the Alamo Bowl against Iowa State that season.
