First phase completed at Tri-Cities Airport

The first phase of the Tri-Cities Airport will open in Pasco on Thursday.

The Tri-City Herald reports the $41.9 million project will open newly constructed gates 3, 4 and 5 at the Pasco airport. Gates 1 and 2 are going to be demolished and replaced as well.

Port of Pasco Commissioner Ron Reimann says the airport renovation was included in a 20-year master plan for growth. He said phasing in the changes has kept airport interruptions at a minimum.

Expected to be completed by January 2017, the new facility will be about double the size of the original 110,000-square-foot airport.
